Street of Dreams; What you can't see

You're invited to this year's NW Natural Street of Dreams where Genesis will feature new and cool technology for your home!

Much of what Genesis does is hidden from view in many homes. Sometimes the technology is overlooked in a show home simply because it is not in clear view, its not what you see, but what you don't see.

Equipment is usually located in a mechanical room, storage room or behind closed doors in cabinetry. Your movie collection is not taking up shelf space in your family room anymore, just hard drive space somewhere in a corner of the house.

Another benefit you don't see is the elimination of wall clutter! Wall clutter is all the thermostats, multi-gang light switches, volume controls, audio keypads and security keypads that can be simplified into one device. When you don't see it, you just don't know what you are missing!

Genesis is a sponsor of the Street of Dreams and we will be available for tours of our Street house. Give us a call to arrange your personal tour to see what you would love to miss!

Hiding the TV

Another great way to disguise electronics in your home, is to cover the television. With the invention of flat panel plasma and LCD technologies, TVs became very slim. The many benefits of the skinny design is the ability to frame it and cover it.

Just like a picture, decorative frames are available to cover the standard black or silver bezel on the plasma on the wall. In addition, specialty mirrors can be added so that when the television is off, all you see is a pretty mirror. Another option is artwork that slides between the frame and the TV when its not in use.

Genesis can help you specify and hide your flat panel television.

What should you ask your custom installer for?

When you are thinking about adding some technology to your home, what should you do to protect yourself?

  • Ask for the contractors license number. Its on our business cards, letterhead and brochures.
  • Ask to see the process that the company will take to complete your project. Our door is always open.
  • Make sure you have signed contract documents that detail what is included, not included, payment terms, etc.
  • If you have paid for design and engineering, make sure you receive a documentation package. At Genesis this includes floorplan, schematics, rack diagrams and proposal.

You might get a Notice of Right to Lien which is required by law. No need to panic, this is just telling you what your rights are, not putting a lien on your property.

CEDIA awards, not just a pretty picture

Whew! May was award submission time again and we entered the Best Integrated Home category. Its an involved process to put together all the required documentation for the awards. The Custom Electronics Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) is our national trade association of manufacturers, representatives and companies like ours who install all of the great technology available today.

Award entries must have professional photographs, written homeowner permission, engineering documents, equipment list and pictures of the touchpanel designs. Each entry is scritinized by two panels of judges. The technical panel includes CEDIA residential electronics system contractors and the design panel is made up of members of the American Institute of Architechts and the American Society of Interior Designers.

We are trying for our 6th consecutive award this year, wish us luck!
